Why You Should Try Diving in 2021

With 2020 already something of a write off, now is the best time possible to get started on the journey of making 2021 your best year yet. How’re you going to do that? A new hobby. And that new hobby should be….(drum roll!)…Diving!

Diving takes on many forms and one of the best things about it is that anyone can give it ago. While full on SCUBA diving takes a little bit of time and effort, a little snorkeling adventure is something all of us can try when on holiday. Here are just a few reasons why it’s time for you to give it a go.

1. Experience Incredible Wildlife

There really is nothing like experiencing our alien underwater world. Whether you’re snorkeling or SCUBA diving there is always something absolutely fascinating to see. Whether it’s tropical fish in the Maldives or the gregarious seals of the Farne Islands it’ll be an amazing experience like no other. There are so many countries to visit to see some great wildlife.

2. Snorkeling is Super Cheap

Unlike many hobbies, snorkeling (and even SCUBA) is very inexpensive. While most dive spots will let you borrow equipment, it’s worth buying your own snorkel and mask to get the best out of your experience, you don’t need to spend a lot either just make sure you get the right fit and you’re off!  While buying your own Apeks regulator set is nice, even experienced divers don’t always bother so diving needn’t be a super expensive hobby (unless you want it to be!)

3. Challenge Yourself

Doing something new always offers a challenge, and diving is no different. While snorkeling requires very little in the way of training and is the perfect way to….dive in, learning to SCUBA dive requires training. Don’t let you put that off though, the experience of gaining a new skill will be more than worth the effort once you get in the water!

4. You’ll Make Amazing Friends

As with any hobby, diving is a great way to make friends. Most divers are part of a tightly knit community and many dive groups come together weekly even when they’re not diving just to hang out and talk about their hobby. Whether you love talking about gear or planning your next trip, you’ll make loads of great, lifelong friends while diving!
