My mom in Marbella, 1973
My mom passed away today. It was hard to let her go, but I got to say goodbye, and she knew I was leaving for Spain tomorrow, and I think she didn't want me to worry. I also know she's feeling better and not sick anymore wherever she is.
She was the biggest Mockers fan in the world and always supported me unconditionally, especially in my hopes and dreams of being a successful musician. When we started the Mockers, Tony Mocker came to live with us in Virginia. My mom invited him to stay, and it ended up being for five years! He even ended up calling her Mom. I think he'd be the first to tell you that she was like a mom to him too.
I'm leaving for Spain tomorrow, headed for Asturias, feeling sad but also looking forward to seeing all my friends and meeting new ones. Family and friends, that's all that matters in life. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
And I know that my mom will be in the front row watching and cheering us on.
