Wow - I almost forgot about this page - 'bluebaboon' I mean!
...and that of course means I've still not picked up a pencil and try to pick up from where I was in my learning to draw "plan" I laid out for myself all those years ago... ah well. "One day"...soon!...
This is from a notepad, er, way back in "97.
"The Cablelites" was an idea for an animated show. I was doing work experience in the "ONTV" cable studio (the in-house tv channel for a small cable company, now merged with others) and as I was studying animation they teamed me up with the company illustrator to have a go at a short animation to see if it took off. Guido (the illustrator) could draw (he was amazing) but not animate, and I was pretty much the opposite (though just learning animation) ;)
This was one of my character doodle sheets I made whilst the old dual 200mhz processor (it was cutting edge back then!) chugged through rendering the after-effects and photoshop'd movies. We did about 3 minutes alltogether! Months of his drawing - and my scanning, line-testing, clean-up, colouring, and turning into a movie...
...then some stupid techs came in one night, wipe the central hard-drives, the studio drives, and the back-up drives, to then re-boot a new system afresh. Of course being in a tv studio all the other work was also backed up on dv tape and so they didn't think - but ours was all computer produced and not yet transferred to tape!
Bang went a summer-times worth of work - and bang went the "Cablelites"! :(
